ForgeFX Simulations & MRIGlobal Develop an Augmented Reality CBRN Detection Device Training Simulator for US Military

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, May 30, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ -- The U.S. Department of Defense Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) has contracted MRIGlobal and ForgeFX Simulations to develop an augmented reality (AR) CBRN detection device training simulator. The Enhanced Warfighter Augmented Trainer (EWAT), or HoloTrainer, is a training simulator designed specifically for the Joint Project Manager Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Special Operations Forces (JPM CBRN SOF) to provide first responders and warfighters with the best possible training to identify hazardous materials and situations accurately.
The training simulator program is powered by a Microsoft HoloLens 2, projecting holographic interactive digital twins of physical devices. The application includes guided training lessons for all major functions the device performs, with voice-over-narration and text instruction. Users can learn at their own pace, by doing actual tasks and steps needed to master use of the real-world device. In addition, the HoloTrainer allows users to train with physical devices, seeing holographically projected animations and instructions on the heads-up-display (HUD) in front of them, allowing them to keep their hands on the device at all times. The application also supports networked multi-user connectivity, enabling trainers and trainees to work together remotely as if in the same room. CBRND HoloTrainer at 2022 Chemical and Biological Defense Science &Technology (CBD S&T) Conference

The CBRND HoloTrainer is an augmented reality device training simulator built for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 by ForgeFX Simulations and MRIGlobal. The CBRND HoloTrainer instructs trainees in the familiarization, operation, and maintenance of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear detection devices by providing holographically-projected interactive 3D virtual versions of the devices for trainees to train on.
Peter Anderson, Principal Engineer at MRIGlobal, demonstrates the CBRND HoloTrainer, a suite of augmented reality device training simulators developed by MRIGlobal and ForgeFX Simulations, at the 2022 Chemical and Biological Defense Science and Technology Conference in San Francisco, California. https://forgefx.com/simulation-projects/augmented-reality-device-training-simulators/

ForgeFX Simulations and MRIGlobal Deliver Augmented Reality Mission Planner

ForgeFX Simulations is honored to be a long-standing training simulator development partner of renowned Midwest research institute MRIGlobal. ForgeFX collaborated with MRIGlobal to develop Checkpoint, an augmented reality tabletop mission planning prototype application built for the Microsoft HoloLens 2. This application was recently recognized by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) with a 2021 SPARK award for Multidimensional Understanding. SPARK awards are granted to identify novel approaches for delivering the best solutions for countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) and CBRND capabilities to the warfighter in the shortest amount of time.
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defense provides funding for transformative projects via the SPARK initiative, JPEO-CBRND's idea incubator. The SPARK Innovation Initiative provides "venture capital" for emerging JPEO program areas before they become free-standing funded programs. A development team composed of ForgeFX and MRIGlobal members submitted a proposal for an augmented reality mission planner prototype which was awarded development funding via SPARK.

MRIGlobal Award From The Joint Project Lead For Chemical, Biological, Radiological, And Nuclear Special Operations Forces Expands Use Of Augmented Reality Technology For Defense Training

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- MRIGlobal was awarded a program by The Joint Project Lead for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Special Operations Forces (JPL CBRN SOF) to expand and extend the use of augmented reality technology to provide flexible, anytime/anywhere device familiarization, operations, and maintenance training for the warfighter.

In a continuing partnership with ForgeFX Simulations, a team of engineers will design, develop, and deliver Microsoft HoloLens training applications for a series of field-deployed CBRN sensors. The warfighter will then be able to experience flexible, self-directed, multi-user, and remote device training with or without (i.e. virtual hologram) access to the CBRN sensors.
